Other sports he participated in as a senior were….. “I ran track and played basketball. We just got through with track and we finished third. I ran the anchor on the 4 x 200 relay team that came in first at state. We made it to the Top 28 in basketball but lost to Ouachita in the semis.”

Some of the things Mingo misses about the recruiting process are….. “Nothing. The only good part about it was the trips. I didn’t like the phone calls and all of that. It was too much.”

LSU was the right fit mainly due to….. “It was familiar to me. I knew the people down there and felt comfortable with the coaches. I have some friends that were already down there too.”

Was there a school that Mingo really considered besides LSU?..... “Nope. There wasn’t any.”

Thoughts on winning name of the year contest…..  “That was crazy. It just kind of happened. They had some pretty weird names in there.”

Mingo’s friends call him….. “Some call me by my first, some by my last. They also call me Ke-Ke because my first name is too long (laughing).”

Mingo is good to go on the academic front

Mingo didn’t start playing football until the spring of his junior season because…..  “I tried freshman year, but I quit because I was always more interested in basketball. I decided to give it another try and I liked it the second time. I was able to get on the field and use my athleticism and the coaches put me in position to make plays so it was a lot more fun.”

On if he expects to see any playing time as a true freshman….. “I think I could play some. It just depends on how everything goes.”

On if he’s been able to workout much on LSU strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt’s program since he signed….. “With basketball and track I wasn’t able to do much but I stayed in shape and did a lot of running with track. I’m starting to workout more now that everything is finished at school.”

Mingo’s academic status is….. “I’m good. I don’t know my exact GPA or anything but I know I’m qualified with my test score and grades. I’m moving down there in the beginning of June and we report on the eighth. I know I’m rooming with Tyler Glynn but I don’t know who else.”

On if he knows what number he will wear at LSU…..  “Not yet. I wore 91 in high school but I don’t know what I’ll wear now.”

Mingo’s describes his style of play by….. “Speed off the edge. I played some safety early in my senior year but then the coaches moved me back down so I could use my speed to make plays. I need to work on some things at linebacker but the coaches said they loved my speed.”

Something that people don’t know about him is….. “I have no idea (laughing).”

Mingo’s favorite food is….. “Pizza.”

Favorite movie is….. “Glory Roads.”

Favorite pro sport to watch is….. “Basketball. I’m a big Lakers fan.”

LSU fans should know that Mingo is….. “Coming. I’m coming and I’m glad to be a Tiger. I’m ready to get down there and start working.”
