Recruited By: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi and Mississippi State Position Ranking: No. 3 Running Back (*****)

Ford’s senior season at Leesville….. “We went to the second round of the playoffs. I had a lot of rushing yards and I think I led the state. The low moment is when we lost in the playoffs to Zachary. We should have won it.”

On running track….. “I ran track before my senior season, but I just focused on football my senior year.”

Recruiting process….. “I don’t miss it too much. It was a headache with a lot of people bugging you on where you are going to go. My coach kept up with all of the recruiting sites and stuff, so he let me know what people were saying and where I was ranked.”

Why LSU….. “LSU was always the place for me, and the 2007 National Championship coming right before my commitment was just a bonus. I don't want anyone thinking that sold it for me, because I was always going to be a Tiger. It was close to home too and my family really liked that.”

On if there was a runner up…..  “If I would have to pick a second school it would have been Alabama. I really liked Nick Saban.”

Do you still want to beat Saban….. “Yes sir [laughing].”

LSU and Alabama seems to be top choices for a lot of recruits…..  Nick Saban came from LSU, and the coaching styles are about the same. They really talk to the players and make them feel like home.

“But when it came down to it I was just so comfortable with Coach Miles and all of the coaches; that made all of the difference in the world. Coach Mac [D.J. McCarthy] and Coach [Larry] Porter were real good to me and my family and I just felt so comfortable with the whole situation.”

Difference between LSU and Alabama…..  “LSU was closer to home. I wanted to play there when I was younger. I always watched them and I guess you could say I’ve always been a Tiger.”

On his expectations for next season….. “I really don’t have any. I just want to go out there, learn the plays, focus, get faster, stronger and bigger. I want to learn the game, study the game and get better. Hard work pays off in the end.”

Want to be the feature back eventually….. “Yeah, that’s what I hope to be. I can go in and learn from the guys that are seniors.”

Most looking forward to….. “The fans while running out on the field. 93,000 people – you don’t get to see that often.”

On the offseason workouts…..  “It’s going great. Coach Moffitt called me up a couple of times to see if I needed help with anything and make sure I’m still following the program.”

Michael Ford is known for being a workout warrior

Injuries at Leesville….. “None my senior season. I broke my collarbone my junior year. That’s the reason I focused on football because everyone said I had an injury problem, and I couldn’t do it so that was motivation for me.”

Academic status….. “I had one correspondence course that I needed to wrap up. I got a B in it, so everything is good to go. I have my GPA and test score so now we’re just waiting on the Clearinghouse to approve everything.”

Moving up to Baton Rouge….. “I am coming down June 1. I am not for certain who I am rooming with, but I believe it will be Chris Davenport and Rueben Randle. I know Chris really well, but I don't really know Rueben yet. It should be a good time, either way.”

Ford’s playing style…..  “I can bring versatility. I can be a power back or a speed back. I can mix it up a bit. That’s how I like to keep my game. I don’t have to lean on one when I can do both.”

What will he miss about Leesville….. “Just being around all my friends that I grew up with. It is cool too because we are going in different directions with life. Some guys are going to the Army, and others are going everywhere from Louisiana Tech to Auburn. I am definitely ready to start my life at LSU, though.

Random fact about the running back….. “I’m a pretty funny guy. I like to laugh. Some people would say that I am a clown. I just like to have a great time. I don't party too much or anything like that, so I have to keep it entertaining for people.”

On how he keeps it entertaining….. “I can do a front flip or back flip with ease, and when I pull that out on people when they don’t expect it, everyone laughs. It is just another way I can clown around.”

In his free time….. “I like to sleep (laughing). I also like watching movies, especially comedies. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Money Talks.”

Any fears….. “I don't really think I am afraid of anything; especially not heights. I can do roller coasters and everything.”

Favorite comedian….. “Martin Lawrence, for sure. No doubt about it.”

Favorite food….. “I really don’t have one, but I’d have to say pizza.”

Sports fan….. “I watch it all. I watch basketball, football, a little baseball. I just like to watch the players.”

On the NBA Playoffs….. “I would not say I am a Witness (laughing), but I like LeBron James a good bit. I am not a huge NBA fan, but I want to see him and Kobe get at it in the Finals - and I want LeBron to take him.”

Models his game after….. “I really like Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders. They are my favorite two running backs.”

Ford wants to tell LSU fans….. “I’m pretty hard working, and I’m going to go out there and do my best for them.”
