Bates is a Tiger

Houston Bates landed a scholarship offer from Les Miles after his performance at LSU's camp last week. After taking a few days to think things over, Bates has reached a conclusion.

“I told Coach [Joe] Robinson that I wanted to commit and he was real excited,” said Bates. “He talked to Coach Miles then I called Coach Miles and told him I was ready to commit. He was happy and it’s a big relief to know that my dream came true.”

Bates (6-2, 226, 4.65) has been a standout defensive end for Covington (La.) St. Paul’s since his sophomore season. His stock took off after a junior campaign where he finished with 63 tackles (34 solos and 29 assists), including 10 for loss and 14 sacks.

Bates, who chose LSU over offers from Colorado, SMU and FIU, may end up at linebacker, fullback or defensive end at LSU.
