New Orleans trio coming in for a visit

This weekend is going to be a big weekend for LSU in recruiting as anywhere from 10-12 prospects will be making their official visits.

O. Perry Walker-New Orleans will make its presence felt as three of its players will be in town for the weekend led by linebacker/defensive end Dominic Cooper (6-4, 225, 4.6). rated him the 39th best defensive end in the country but he may be a better linebacker prospect at the collegiate level. Cooper has made two official visits and he recently returned from his trip to Clemson where he gave the Tigers' program a high mark.

"It was nice," Cooper told Tiger Rag. "I enjoyed myself. It was cool. Their graduation rate for football players is real high. The academic program was the best I've seen on my two visits. The players were cool. It was a cool visit."

Next up for the talented prospect is a trip he has been anxiously awaiting for some time now.

"I've been there (LSU) a lot of times but this will give me a chance to see how I fit in with the players and coaches," said Cooper. "It will give me a chance to hang out with the players and see the city."

Joining Cooper on his visit to Baton Rouge will be his good friends and teammates, safety Darryl Johnson and receiver Craig Davis. The trio have a close bond and would be an unbelievable catch if Saban could keep the three of them together for the next four or five years.

"Those are my boys," Cooper said. "We've been rolling together since the ninth grade. It would be good if we could stay together and play college football but if not we will stay in touch. It would be nice, though."

After visiting LSU, Cooper will visit Indiana and West Virginia to finish off recruiting. He said if he had to choose out of Colorado and Clemson since those are the only two schools he has seen then he would choose Clemson but that does not mean the Tigers from South Carolina are his leader.

"I'm pretty much open," he said. "I've always said I wanted to see what all of them had to offer. I plan on taking all of my visits but if I get that gut feeling on my visit about a school then I'll know it is the one."

Sonny's View: I do not expect Saban to pick up commitments from all three of the prospects from Walker but I think his chances are very good with Cooper and Davis. Johnson is academically qualified but Cooper said he thinks the All-American safety wants to go out of state.
