Johnson leaning to LSU and Miami

Arguably the top defensive back prospect in Louisiana for 2003 is All-America safety Daryl Johnson (6-0, 200, 4.4) of O. Perry Walker-New Orleans (La.).

College coaches never questioned his football skills and now that he is a full academic qualifier the sky is the limit for this talented young man.

Nick Saban will get first crack at hosting Johnson on his official visit to LSU this weekend but there is some stiff competition for the Tigers' head coach to deal with.

"When he leaves LSU he is going to go to fly to Tennessee on Sunday and then Miami the week after," said O. Perry Walker assistant offensive coordinator Kyle Pierce. "He is pretty much leaning to LSU and Miami. He will decide on his visits."

Johnson recently made an 18 on the ACT test and his core grade point average is right where it needs to be, according to Pierce.

There are rumors flying around the state concerning O. Perry Walker head coach Frank Wilson and whether or not he will take a position on the LSU coaching staff but for now they are only rumors.

"He tries not to talk about it with the kids because he doesn't want them to feel like they have to go where he goes if he leaves," Pierce said. "He wants them to make up their own mind."

Could there be a package deal in the works?
