Watson back from LSU visit

This weekend was the biggest recruiting weekend for the LSU coaching staff with some of the top players from around the state making their official visits to the Capitol City.

Defensive Tackle Ryan Watson (6-4, 280, 4.8) of John Curtis-River Ridge is the eighth rated tackle in the country and fresh off his official visit.

He took a brief second from the watching the AFC Championship game to talk about his visit to the LSU campus.

"It was good," Watson told Tiger Rag. "I enjoyed it. It was about the same as all of the other trips with the academics, the football and the food. I've been there so many times so I knew about everything. The academic center was real nice. Roger Grooters was a real cool man."

There was a couple of things Watson was unsettled on with the Tiger program heading into his trip concerning the Tigers' newly appointed defensive line coach and the future depth chart but all of that has been resolved.

"Coach Jones was real cool," Watson said. "I was very impressed with the way he knows what he is doing so that is not going to be a problem playing for him. Coach Saban talked to me about the depth chart issue and then after that everything was fine."

He will take has last scheduled official visit to Miami on Jan. 24 and then he will sit down and sort things out. For now, it appears everyone is at an even keel.

"I don't have a leader," he said. "I'm wide open. That is the way I wanted it because I want to see what they all have."

Sony's View: I think LSU's chances hinge on next week's visit to Miami for both Watson and teammate, Carnell Stewart. If signing day was this Wednesday then I think LSU would get Watson's signature. However, Miami is a key player and a big threat.
