No wavering from this Texan

LSU lost one of its earlier commitments to Texas A&M when Dennis Franchione took over the Aggies' program.

Offensive lineman Chris Yoder wavered on his pledge to the Tigers for the hometown Aggies and there has been some rumor that another Tiger commitment from the Lonestar State would do the same.

Matt Flynn, a 6-2, 218-pound quarterback from Lee-Tyler (Texas), committed to Nick Saban over the summer but as soon as Franchione was named head coach Flynn became a target of the new staff.

Some Tiger fans were concerned that Flynn, who is rated the 16th best signal caller in the country, would take an official visit to A&M and then decide he wanted to be an Aggie as well. Well, Flynn's father put any doubt to rest?

"No," said Alvin Flynn. "He is solid on LSU. He seems to be excited. He told Franchione he wasn't interested. Coach Heldewser, the offensive line coach that recruits this area, has been by several times and Matt told him last week he would not take an official visit. He just was not interested."

LSU linebackers coach Kirk Doll visited Flynn on Monday to make sure everything was in order for his weekend trip to Baton Rouge. Doll and the other Tiger coaches know how valuable he is because of the uncertainty concerning Robert Lane's future with professional baseball.

If Lane does opt for baseball the Tigers will still have a top-notch quarterback for the future in Flynn.
