Schedule Finalized

For the first time in LSU history, all 16 Southeastern Conference games will be televised either regionally or nationally as the men's basketball schedule was announced on Thursday by LSU Coach Trent Johnson, the SEC and its television partners.

The schedule is highlighted by a Thursday-Saturday February SEC homestand with both Tennessee and Kentucky. Also the Maravich Center will be the host site for the first two rounds of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off and non-conference games against Utah and Rice.

LSU is scheduled to play a minimum of 18 home games at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center starting with the season opener against Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, Nov. 13. As previously announced, LSU will then host the South Region of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off on Nov. 16 and 17, with the Tigers facing Indiana State in the first round with Western Kentucky and Milwaukee meeting in the other first round game. The two winners and losers meet in the second round the next night with the undefeated team going to the semifinals in New York City.

It will mark the first time LSU has participated in the pre-season NIT since the 1989-90 season.

LSU, the defending champions of the Southeastern Conference, under second-year SEC Coach of the Year Trent Johnson will open league play on Saturday, Jan. 9, at home against Alabama. This will mark just the fourth time this decade the Tigers have opened at home in league play. That game will be one of four games televised regionally by FSN.

The other FSN games are at Florida (Jan. 16), at Auburn (Feb. 27) and the season finale at home against Georgia (March 6).

A total of 10 league games will be shown on the new over-the-air SEC Network starting with the Jan. 13 game at South Carolina. Included in those 10 games will be the LSU-Kentucky game on Feb. 6 at 3 p.m.

LSU will make two appearances on ESPN’s new Thursday night SEC package as part of the “SEC on ESPN.” LSU will host Tennessee at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 and travel to Ole Miss for an 8 p.m. game on March 4. At a later date, the network will decide whether the games will be on ESPN or ESPN2.

Each of the 96 conference games will be televised live as part of the SEC’s historic 15-year agreements with CBS Sports and ESPN that begin this year. Last year 69 conference games were televised live. ESPN and ESPN2 will offer 27 conference matchups, more than double last year’s 13 telecasts. Any regional telecasts will be available as part of ESPN’s Full Court, the pay subscription college basketball out-of-market service and ESPN360.com.

Also as part of the SEC Network coverage on Saturday, ESPN Regional Television will produce and distribute a studio show each Saturday afternoon during conference play.

“Our league will very probably be at the top of the list this year,” said Johnson. “Every game will be very competitive both at home and especially on the road, and more people than ever will see the SEC play on this new television package. We will host three very good schools in the pre-season NIT and look forward to the opportunities and challenges this year’s schedule presents our team.”

The pre-season NIT will have several games televised on the ESPN family of networks and other non-conference games may be picked up by ESPN, FSN or by LSU’s own network home, CST. Those telecasts and final game times for the non-conference games will be announced in the weeks to come.

Last year, the Tigers won the SEC regular season title with a 13-3 record, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
