Stars Shine

Several LSU commitments and other prospects of interest were in action on Thursday and Friday, and here is a look at how some of those players fared as high school football is underway in most parts of the country.

2010 Commitments


*** According to the Times Picayune, Houston Bates had a good game in St. Paul’s 21-8 loss to Rummel. Bates logged a couple of sacks, forced a fumble on one of the sacks and also blocked a punt. On one drive, Bates recorded two consecutives tackles for loss then sacked the quarterback on the third play.


*** Spencer Ware did not play in Princeton’s (Ohio) 21-4 loss to Huber Heights Wayne HS. had a Scout covering the game and according to a spokesperson from Princeton HS, Ware has a possible muscle tear in the hip/groin area that may sideline him for several games, but his status remains up in the air. will get clarification on the extent of the injury soon.


*** Four-star safety Eric Reid played only the first play in Dutchtown’s loss to Denham Springs on Thursday. Reid dinged up the shoulder that he had surgery on in the beginning of the year and was taken out of the game as a precaution. He could have continued to play had it not been a jamboree according to Dutchtown head coach Bennie Saia.


*** Travis Dickson and his Ocean Springs (Miss.) squad were upset by Tylertown HS, 22-21, on a 26-yard field goal with two seconds left on the clock. Ocean Springs was ranked No. 3 in the state in Class 6A, while Tylertown was ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. No stats were provided on Dickson.


*** Prattville (Ala.) and LSU commitment Sam Gibson will face off with 2011 quarterback C.J. Uzomah, who holds an LSU offer, and North Gwinnett (Ga.) on Saturday. Be sure and check the Premium Message Board late Saturday night or early Sunday morning for stats on Gibson’s evening.


*** Eunice (La.) defeated Beau Chenne 19-14 and Tharold Simon had a few big plays for the Bobcats. Simon, a four-star prospect, scored on a 59-yard pass play on his first touch of the game and helped lead the way – blocking – for the game-winning score on a 59-yard touchdown pass play.


*** Spring (Texas) Klein Oak fell to Houston Cypress Creek HS 23-17 in the season opener. No stats were provided on LSU verbal Luke Muncie, but Klein Oak’s defense allowed 254 total yards (136 rushing and 118 passing).


*** Several other LSU commitments from the Lone Star State did not play on Friday as Zack Lee and Mike Davis will start their season next week. Four-star offensive tackle Evan Washington will play tonight (Saturday), and LSU target, Lache Seastrunk, will start his season next Friday.


*** Troup County (Ga.) defeated Callaway HS 15-7 but there were no stats provided on LSU commitment Brandon Worle.


*** Cameron Fordham’s Duluth (Ga.) Northview squad fell to Centennial HS 38-0 but not stats were given on Fordham.


*** Four-star wide receiver Justin Hunter took a punt back to the house for a 75-yard touchdown and hauled in two passes for 34 yards in Ocean Lakes’ 42-0 victory over Princess Anne HS.


*** Memphis (Tenn.) Ridgeway fell 26-21 to White Station HS but no stats or pertinent information could be located on four-star outside linebacker Justin Maclin.



2010 Targets


*** Hahnville’s Alfred Blue carried the ball 17 times for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers’ 21-6 win over St. James.


*** Trovon Reed led Thibodaux to a 19-0 win over Vandebilt Catholic in the Thibodaux Jamboree. The four-star wide out, who plays quarterback for the Tigers, completed 2-of-3 passes for 42 yards with both completions going for touchdowns that covered 5 and 37 yards.


*** Four-star offensive tackle Damien Robinson helped pave the way for a 277-yard rushing effort by Olive Branch (Miss.) in a 41-13 rout of Millington HS.


*** Jonathan Brown, who LSU is looking at as a possible fullback should one be needed, scored on a 5-yard touchdown pass in Memphis (Tenn.) Christian Brothers’ 17-7 win against Germantown.


*** Three-star running back Nick Parker rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown in Batesville (Miss.) South Panola’s 34-13 victory over Northwest Rankin HS. On the year, Parker has rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns in two games.


*** Five-star wide receiver Demarco Cobbs scored on a 19-yard touchdown run and ran for 119 yards in Tulsa (Okla.) Central’s 13-12 win over Memorial.



2011 Prospects


Note: The following prospects have verbal offers from LSU


*** Jarvis Landry had a big night for Lutcher in a 25-0 blanking of Destrehan in jamboree action. Landry caught four passes for 102 yards with two touchdowns – 6 and 10 yards.


*** Rock Hill (S.C.) Northwestern quarterback Justin Worley completed 27-of-38 passes for 205 yards with one interception in a 14-0 loss to Goose Creek HS.
