Porter to Memphis as Head Coach

LSU running backs coach Larry Porter is returning to his alma mater.

Sources have confirmed that LSU running backs coach Larry Porter will be named head coach at his alma mater, Memphis.


Washington Redskins secondary/cornerbacks coach Jerry Gray was considered the other frontrunner for the slot.


Porter coached running backs at LSU for five years under Les Miles. He also coached running backs under Les Miles at Oklahoma State.


Porter, who is widely regarded as one of LSU’s top recruiters, played at Memphis from 1990-93. He finished with 2,194 rushing yards, which ranks sixth in Memphis history.
