LSU, which rolled to the overall SEC championship last season, is finding wins hard to come by this time around.
In fact, the Tigers are winless in conference play following their 72-58 loss at Florida.
Down by seven points at halftime, the Tigers saw their deficit double less than four minutes into the second half. The Gators continued on for a 20-3 run and a 57-34 lead with a little less than 14 minutes left.
"It was really disappointing when they came out and put that run on us in the second half," senior Tasmin Mitchell said after his team fell to 0-3 in the Western Division. "All that hard work we did in the first half didn't pay off in the second half. We just didn't play 40 minutes of basketball."
The Tigers have lost six of their last seven games.
"It's just very frustrating," Mitchell said. "I don't know what the problem is, to be honest with you."
At least the Tigers will have a chance to regroup a bit with two home games coming up against Auburn and Ole Miss. The problem is they lost their last outing at home by 17 points to Alabama.
--LSU is averaging a league-low 55 points a game in conference play through the first three games. The Tigers are 10th in overall shooting (42.4 percent) and last in three-point shooting (21.6) against SEC foes.
--Senior F Tasmin Mitchell, who is in the Top 10 in the SEC in both scoring and rebounding for all games, has seen his scoring dip to 13.7 ppg in three conference games from 16.9 for the season overall. He is averaging 9.4 rpg in all games, 9.0 in SEC contests only.
ON THE SPOT: Forward Storm Warren continues to get into foul trouble. He had two in the first five minutes against Florida and played only 14 minutes, scoring eight points and grabbing rebounds.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We had a hard time physically and mentally coming back with maximum effort, and I think that's what you expect with a young and inexperienced team." -- Coach Trent Johnson said after the second-half struggles for LSU in the loss at Florida.
