Wiese named LSWA Softball Player of the Week

LSU's Julie Wiese has been named the Louisiana Sports Writer's hitter of the week for softball, while Louisiana-Monroe's Ashley Bellew was named the state's pitcher of the week. <br><br> Wiese, a junior third baseman from Baton Rouge, hit .412 with four home runs and eight RBI in five games last week for the Tigers. She collected two home runs and four RBI in a 12-0 win over Cal-Poly and then followed that with home runs in games against Utah and Central Michigan.

In the field, Wiese did not commit and error in 11 chances from third base as the Tigers posted a 4-1 mark at the UNLV Invitational.

Bellew pitched 14 innings going 1-1 in the Mardi Gras Classic last week for Louisiana-Monroe. She allowed only one earned run, while striking out 10 batters in games against Baylor and Tulsa. Against Baylor, Bellew picked up the victory in a 5-2 win over Baylor and she then scattered five hits to go with one unearned run in a 1-0 setback to Tulsa in the championship game of the Mardi Gras Classic
