Aiysha Smith, a senior for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was selected as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Smith, a native of Detroit, Mich., led the fourth-ranked Lady Tigers to a pair of victories over this past week, including a thrilling triple-overtime win against No. 20 Santa Barbara.
Smith scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a career-best 51 minutes in the victory, earning her 12th career double double. Her 30-point performance was the best by an LSU player since Marie Ferdinand scored 34 on March 18, 2001, against Purdue.
The 6-2 post player also scored five of her 30 points in the third overtime, including hitting a key three-pointer with less than a minute to play to give LSU a 89-85 lead.
Smith added 10 points and three rebounds in LSU's victory over Alabama last Thursday.
It is the second time Smith has earned the honor in her career and the first this season. She joins freshman Seimone Augustus as the two Lady Tigers to be named SEC player of the Week this season.
