LSU Track hosts Twilight Invitational

The LSU track and field team returns to action Friday when it hosts the LSU Twilight Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse beginning at 3 p.m.<br><br>The meet will serve as a final tune-up for the SEC Indoor Championships to be held the following week, March 1-2, in Gainesville, Fla.

The meet will feature numerous teams from around the south as in-state schools Tulane, New Orleans and UL-Lafayette are all scheduled to compete, along with Alabama, Jackson State, Samford, Southern Mississippi, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Troy State.

LSU is coming off a successful performance at the Armory Invitational in New York City last week, as the Tigers came home with six individual event first-place finishes. Junior Muna Lee continued her dominance in the short sprints, claiming both the 60 and 200-meter dash titles.

Fellow juniors Lolo Jones, Neisha Bernard-Thomas, and Nicole Toney all came away with event titles for the Lady Tigers as well. Jones claimed her third straight 60-meter hurdle title, while Bernard-Thomas won her first 800-meter title of the season and Nicole Toney won her third consecutive triple jump crown.

Junior John Moffitt has the lone Tiger to earn first-place honors over the weekend as he finished first in the long jump, marking his fourth straight win in the event this year.

Following the LSU Twilight Invitational, the track and field team will return to Gainesville, Fla. and UF's O'Connell Center for the 2003 edition on the SEC Indoor Championships, March 1-2.
