With a lacrosse tournament in Memphis set for the weekend, Naperville, Ill. native Nick Lifka added another stop to he and his father’s road trip. Though for only a couple of days, the Lifka’s enjoyed a true recruiting experience, from staying on campus at the Lod Cook Hotel to taking in an afternoon practice.
By the time the pair left Baton Rouge, there was even an extended visit with head coach Les Miles.
“The whole trip was fun,” Lifka said. “My dad and I both really liked it. It was a chance for us to get to really see the campus, especially with all the student body there. I expected the size in terms of number of people, but everything else was more than I expected.”
From the sights of the campus and academic centers to the behind the scenes tours of the football operations center, Lifka rated the visit out as a flawless one, putting LSU in prime position for the fullback’s services as the recruitment calendar turns to the summer months.
“Getting to meet all of the coaches and being able to see them run their practices was really helpful,” he said. “I had a long conversation with coach Miles, and that was pretty special.
“I also had the chance to sit in on a position meeting with [running backs] coach [Frank] Wilson,” he added. “I liked seeing how the coach recruiting me works. He also stayed after the meeting to discuss more stuff with me, so we had a chance to really get to know one another.”
During his meeting with the LSU headman, Lifka was asked about his timetable for a decision. While he expected the staff to press for his commitment, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Naperville North High standout said that talks went down another road.
“I didn’t know if time would be running out on me [to commit], but coach Miles told me to think things over for a little while and not worry about anything,” Lifka said. “He asked me to get back down to his camp in June, and I am sure we will talk more about it then. It was pretty relieving.”
Lifka currently holds offers from LSU, Indiana, Western Michigan, Eastern Illinois and Ball State.
