There was a point in time where Jalen Grimble figured that his 17th birthday next August would be the stage for the announcement of his college destination.
One of the highest ranked prospects by recruiting services and most coveted names by college staffs, Grimble’s decision, set to come before his senior season began, was considered early at that stage.
After a weekend visit to Lincoln, Neb. to visit Bo Pelini and the Cornhuskers, the nation’s No. 5 ranked defensive end is ready to push the decision date up three months.
“I think I am going to go ahead and make a call next month,” Grimble said. “I have narrowed my offer list down to USC, UCLA, LSU and Nebraska.”
Having made trips to all four campuses, Grimble points to a combination of academics and strong coaching staffs as the unifying theme of his final group.
“I have got a really great personal relationship going with each of the coaches recruiting me from these schools,” Grimble said. “I felt comfortable enough with each school to include them. The academics are strong and so is the football.”
The telephone line from Baton Rouge has stayed connected to Las Vegas, seeing Grimble and defensive line coach Brick Haley speak on a weekly basis as crunch time presents itself.
“Coach Haley and I talked on Tuesday, and I talked with him last week as well,” Grimble said. “It’s still the same conversations, where we discuss how I am doing in the classroom and where I am with my thoughts on the recruitment process.”
