Improvement over fall camp and his mindset for the opener…

“I’m not nervous … not at all. We have been preparing since January for this season. I feel extremely confident in this team and I feel we will go out and be very explosive this year … We are getting ready for North Carolina this Saturday, and I think it’s going to be a very interesting game.”

What he needs to see from himself…

“I wouldn’t judge it on one performance … I have a whole season to look forward to. It can only get better.”

How to prepare for a UNC defense that could be without several key starters…

“We are preparing for all of them to play. On the scout team we put Austin in the position where he should be if he was to play, and we did that as well for the other side of the ball. We want them to play, but if they don’t we will still do the same things.”

Whether the team has kept up with the news as it comes in…

“I wouldn’t put my focus on wondering if those guys will play or not. We have to go against a whole defense, not just one guy. That’s how we look at it.”

If UNC is missing key men, does the win become less quality…

“Anybody can put it how they want to put it, but a victory is a victory if they have their guys or not. They scheduled to play us on that day, and we are coming to play that day.”

If preparing for a starter that didn’t get cleared for gametime was frustrating…

“Not really. It kind of helps us out a little bit. If they are losing key guys then they should have been way more aware of what they did before they did it. We are preparing for them to play, and if they don’t then that’s their loss.

On knowing the backups tendencies…

“I don’t think it will be as strong as the starter would, so that’s a better situation.”

Why Atlanta means more than Seattle in 2009…

“Because of the hype that this game gets. I think it’s probably the most hyped first game there has ever been. We are in the Georgia Dome, the first college football game and are playing a good team like UNC. It’s extremely different from Washington because it was just a regular college game in their stadium.”
