DT Pep Levingston

Thoughts on the influx of youth…

“Playing a lot of young guys helps with depth, and we can count on them towards the end of the season.”

On the line’s first time out…

“We banged each other up (in preseason), so it was good to go against an opponent.”

On UNC’s comeback…

“We had them at 10 points until the fourth quarter and then let up. We are disappointed in that. It’s hard to celebrate a victory because we kind of let ourselves down. It was one of our goals to not let a team score in the fourth quarter, and they scored two touchdowns.”

On the youth across the line…

“We always knew during spring ball that they were going to be some pretty good guys to play with. Sam showed up big. We were all in the hotel bragging about who would get the first sack … and Sam came up with it.”

What he learned from the night…

“We are a pretty good defense. We have a lot to learn, but our goal is to get better week in and week out.”

On UNC’s off-the-field issues…

“It wasn’t really a distraction besides the fact that they changed a lot of offensive linemen. It was different seeing offensive linemen switch out, but that was a challenge that we overcame.”

DE Sam Montgomery

On his first career start…

“I think it broke me into everything I will face. You had a great quarterback, great offensive linemen and they didn’t give up. Most teams don’t give up, and I’m glad they didn’t. This was a great training tool.”

Initial thoughts after the night…

“We have a lot more to prove. We have a lot of young guys out there. I have a lot more to go. This is SEC football. I have to grow up quickly. I have to grow up immediately. This week I am going to train myself … I have to learn how to eat, sleep and breath football.”

The message from Miles in the locker room after the game…

“Don’t be satisfied. North Carolina is a tough opponent, but there will be tougher out there … if you are a true competitor you are never satisfied.”
