Regarded by many as the top prospect in the state of Illinois for 2012, Taylor should fit in well with the recent philosophy and roster makeup of Marquette. At six-foot-eight, he possess the size to play both forward spots and his ability to stretch the floor should prove to be an asset for MU.
Taylor ran with the Mac Irvin Fire during the AAU season and proved to be a valuable player for them during the Nike EYBL. In 15 regular season games he averaged 14.5 points- and 6.9 rebounds per game. During the Peach Jam (championship of the EYBL) he averaged 14.2 points- and 9.8 rebounds per game (in five games).
Taylor is the third commitment in the class of 2012 for Marquette joining Norfolk (VA) Maury HS guard Jamal Ferguson and Denison (TX) Paris JC guard T.J. Taylor.
With Steve Taylor's commitment the Golden Eagles have flexibility in where they decide to go with their remaining scholarship. They definitely have room in the frontcourt to add another body but adding an additional point guard seems like a legitimate possibility as well.
Currently the Golden Eagles seem to have their eyes on several post players. Some names to keep an eye on are (in alphabetical order): Zach Auguste, Terry Brutus, Shaquille Cleare, Zena Edosomwan, Brice Johnson, Phillip Nolan and Devin Thomas.
If Marquette were to take a point guard, Kris Dunn and Ray Lee seem to be the most likely candidates.
Commitment Impact: Steve Taylor
