Crowder and DJO lead MU past UCONN 79-65

Led by Seniors Jae Crowder's 29 points and 12 rebounds and Darius Johnson Odom's 24 pts, Marquette beat UConn 79-64. It was the 10th win in 11 Big East games for Marquette (22-5, 11-3 Big East). The key play of the game occurred midway through the 2nd half. UConn (16-10, 6-8) had cut into MU's 13 pt 42-29 halftime lead when guard Ryan Boatright was called for technical foul during a MU timeout.

The score was 48-44 when DJO made the 2 technical FTs and Jae Crowder hit a three for a 5 pt possession putting MU ahead 53-44 with 8 min to go.

Marquette has now won in Connecticut 3 straight yrs...'09-10 Jimmy Butler's shot, in '10-11 when DJO took over in OT, and today.

Buzz Williams said in this post game interview with the WAUK radio team of Steve True and Jim McIlvaine:

Buzz: "We are 4-3 on the road...20-20[on road in Big East] in our tenure since we have been here...hard to do, pal...hard to do."

"Our team knows that this was for +4[wins on road+1/loses at home -1]....the longer they[players] are here ...the more they are able to process my thinking...Jamil [Wilson] is really smart...Mello[Jamail Jones] knows...DJO is a basketball savant...that was a big win..."

[Guards mindset].Buzz: "The real deal is that we are playing 7 guards...the responsibility of them on the glass is critical...with Jamil and Jae fighting bigger guys so we must get more help...our ‘go get'[rebound] guys have become really good..10 off reb on road says a lot...the minutes that Todd[Mayo] played were critical...both offensive rebounds he got were in the 1H...when Technical happened...DJO makes FTs...Jae hits three...[Jae then hits a 3 and misses FT but gets off rebound]...when the margin we are playing with is so small when we get an offensive reb can, we can eat up 2-3 min....when we get an Off rebound."

[Todd Mayo..hit a big three in first half...a bank try..]I tell my kids to always kiss the corner...he has been playing really good...they say that he has hit the wall...but he did not hit a wall...the wall hits them...those young guys...Todd is passed that[stage]...he has been having really good practices...he is kind of a creature of habit...rhythm..

[on Jae Crowder]...I said on TV...you cannot measure heart and measure soul...in order for it to become evident...there had to be overwhelming trust...and love.[among teammates]..understanding of time, score and momentum.....With a vibe...Jae's heart and soul...never seen a guy who can do this...Jae back in Sweet 16[last March], the three he hit [Syr]...

Today when we do shell prep...we travelled with only 9 guys...so cannot do 5 on 5...so we do opponent actions with 4 guys...today...I play the point...4 on 4...I am playing the pt...Jae jumps the pass and intercepts it...you cannot teach that instinct...'Coach I am jumping it..' not coaching...not teaching...just instinct...."
