Jamal Ferguson Granted Release, Will Transfer

MU announced that Freshman Jamal Ferguson has been granted his release from his scholarship and will return to his native Virginia. During the yr, Coach Buzz Williams mentioned that Jamal was faster than Vander Blue in some practice drills. Ferguson is a scoring 2G, was very raw but with a ton of potential.

However, with four top freshmen perimeter guards and small forwards in MU's top 10 rated recruiting class, there may not be not be playing time for him in '13-14. Ferguson was put into the Miami game with about 3 min left in what probably was a 'thank you' for Ferguson's hard work at practice during the year.

Here is the press release.

Milwaukee – Freshman forward Jamal Ferguson of the Marquette University men's basketball team has been granted his release from the program and will transfer.

"Jamal has decided it is in the best interest of his future that he leave the team," head coach Buzz Williams said. "He has our complete support, and we wish him nothing but the best and are very appreciative of his contributions while he was here."

The Norfolk, Va., native appeared in 14 games off the bench for MU in 2012-13, his first season with the program. He averaged 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds in 4.6 minutes per outing.

"I am hoping to find a school closer to my family, who are very important to me," Ferguson said. "I would also like to obviously find a situation where I can have more playing time on the court."
