At one point, Villanova held Marquette scoreless on 11 consecutive possessions in the first half and led 36-19 at half . Nova led by as many as 24 pts[50-26] in the second half. A scary moment for MU, when the team’s leading scorer Matt Carlino left the game after being flipped on his head.
In the post game, MU coach Steve Wojciechowski pointed out to his teams missed layups and short shots as being the key.
"I thought that really affected our spirit, missing those," Wojciechowski said. "We don't have the depth and experience of guys who've been in it. It appears, based on tonight, our psyche is fragile right now."
