PG Traci Carter commits to Marquette

Traci Carter, a point guard out of Burlington, New Jersey, announced Tuesday morning he will attend Marquette University next fall. Carter chose Marquette over Xavier, UConn, La Salle and Memphis, according to reports. Carter visited Xavier Feb. 28 and made his official visit to Marquette last Saturday for the team’s regular season finale. and list Carter as a 4-star point guard, while has him listed as a 3-star recruit. ESPN rates him as the fifth best player in the state of New Jersey.

This is an important signing for head coach Steve Wojciechowski. Not only does Carter bolster a very impressive inaugural recruiting class, led by top-5 forward Henry Ellenson, it also gives Marquette a natural point guard on the roster. Many consider Duane Wilson a point guard, but he is more of a scorer than a facilitator.

Carter replaces Sun Prairie native Nick Noskowiak, who decommitted from Marquette, who left his team momentarily to deal with personal issues.

Marquette now has four 4-star recruits in Carter, Haanif Cheatham, Matt Heldt and Sacar Anim, along with a program-changing talent in Ellenson. The addition of Carter gives Marquette 11 scholarship players on next year’s roster.
