5-11 PG Andrew Rowsey to Marquette

On Sunday, Andrew Rowsey, 5-10 UNC Asheville transfer guard, announced he had committed to Marquette. He announced it via Twitter. The Big South player averaged 19.7 pts per game for Asheville and shot over 37% from three.

Rowsey scored 1,244 pts in two seasons at NC Ashville

He visited North Carolina State, South Carolina, Cincinnati and Marquette before committing to Marquette on Sunday.

Rowsey averaged 20.3 pts per game his Freshman yr at UNCA which was second nationally for his class.

He averaged 87% from the FT line which reminds many older MU observers of PG Jim Boylan who transferred from Assumption College and averaged 90% from the FT line during MU’s championship run in 1977.

Rowsey scored 41 pts vs Radford on Feb 13, 2014. He has 39 on Feb 26th 2015 in a Big South game vs High Point.

On November 18th 2013, then Duke assistant coach Steve Wojciechowski saw Rowsey first hand in one of his first games in Division 1 at UNCA as he scored 2 pts on 1 for 7 from the field, 0-3 from three, with 3 reb, 3 assists and 2 turnovers in 33 min.

Enjoyed the best season of any freshman to ever play at UNC Asheville in 2013-14 averaging 20.3pts[leading the Conference] and being named Big South Freshman of the Year and earned first-team All-Conference honors

Played HS basketball at Rockbridge HS, Roanoke, Virginia……named Virginia HS player of the year as a senior averaging 35.8 points per game…once scored 60 points in a game against Stuarts Draft early in the season… shot .492 FGA, .888 from the FT line and .356 from three….completed his HS career with 2,637 points, the second most points scored by any high school player in the state of Virginia.

Last Nov 14, Rowsey scored 26 pts vs Wake Forest.
