ECU Preview

The Marquette Golden Eagles (6-8,15-10) will face the East Carolina Pirates (4-10,12-12) Wednesday at 7p.m at the Bradley Center. The Golden Eagles, who have already clinched a berth to the Conf. USA Tournament with a win over South Florida 70-63, lost their previous conference match to the University of Alabama-Birmingham Saturday 87-69, making them 3-4 on the road. Junior guard Travis Diener scored 17 points in the loss while senior forward Scott Merritt added 12.

The Pirates are coming off a 69-60 win at home over USF, giving them their third consecutive win, their longest of the season. Senior Derrick Wiley scored 17 points in the victory.
 The series between the Golden Eagles and the Pirates are tied 2-2.  Each team is undefeated at home in the series, with Marquette loosing both games at East Carolina just as the Pirates are 0-2 at Milwaukee, losing 80-48 at Marquette in their last meeting on Jan. 29, 2003.
 The night will also see a fan-give away Dwyane Wade Bobblehead Doll.  Wade's doll is the second give-away in Marquette history, with Coach Tom Crean's being the first. After an All-American season, Wade was picked fifth overall by the Miami Heat in the 2003 NBA draft.
 The game will be aired on Fox Sports North.

With twelve points on Saturday against the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Scott Merritt has become one of only twelve players in Marquette history to record over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds and the first to record over 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 100 blocks and 100 assists.  Only players like Jim Mcllvaine (1990-1994), George Thompson (1966-1969), Bo Ellis (1973-1977) and Earl Tatum (1972-1976) has accomplished reaching 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
 At the beginning of the season, Merritt was only 33 rebounds shy of reaching 500 in his career and has passed the mark this late in the season with 616.
