Dominic James - A Midseason Report

Richmond Indiana's Dominic James is building a strong case in his battle with Josh McRoberts (Duke) and Luke Zeller (Notre Dame) for the prestigious Mr. Basketball award in Indiana.

Richmond (IN) High School senior point guard Dominic James is having an outstanding year, leading the Red Devils to a 10-2 record and 3-1 in the North Central Conference. The conference is made up of some of the most successful high school teams in Indiana, including Muncie Central, Anderson, New Castle and Marion. Richmond's only losses this year occured on the same mid-December weekend in games at Muncie Central and at home against Indianapolis Arlington. Arlington is currently the top ranked school with Muncie Central ranked third in the latest AP poll for Indiana's largest classification. Richmond is one of the honorable mention teams.

Dominic ranks in every category in the most recent North Central Conference statistics taken before last weekends games. These stats includes all games, conference and non-conference, and he is averaging 28.9 points (1st), 6.8 rebounds (3rd), 6.5 assists (2nd), 3.0 steals (2nd), 53.6 overall field goal percentage (8th), 41.1 three point percentage (4th) and 74.4 free throw percentage (12th). In the 4 conference games, Dominic has averaged 31.6 points and had a season high 42 points in an overtime win at Marion.

The Marquette signee scored 24 and 34 points in home wins over Logansport and Indianapolis Washington this past weekend and is the second leading scorer in entire state. The four year starter recently moved into second on the all-time Richmond scoring annals behind only Woody Austin, who had a solid college career at Purdue.

James is one of the top candidates for the prestigious Mr. Basketball award in Indiana and also has a legitimate shot at both McDonald's and Parade Magazine All-American teams.
