NBA Camp: Day Two (1st Session)

2006 CHECKLIST

Earl Clark, SG: He's always going to be one of the physically most impressive guys out there and when he's posting guys up and finishing in traffic he looks even better. Clark, who shaved his head and still appears to be 6-foot-8, used his length to his advantage and was the top prospect on the floor in his game.

Kevin Durant, SF: By his standards, it was an average 19 point, 8 rebound effort. His jumper was slow to get clicking in the first half but he finished with a flurry, connecting on 8-of-14 shots from the field. His best move of the day was passing on 3-pointer, putting it on the deck and sticking a mid-range pull-up.

Doug Wiggins, PG: Point guards seem to be making their moves this summer and Wiggins is set to make his. He's in our Top 100 but he's playing like he's wanting rearrange the rankings. In true NYC style (he's headed to St. John's) Wiggins can break his man down but he's not selfish. He'll drive and kick and when he's making his jumper like was today his candidacy gets even stronger. His top play was a mid-court laser to a cutting Durant for a dime.

DaJuan Summers, PF: The Hoyas have something here. Its' not like he was dominant today but what he does translates to college basketball. He takes what you give him from mid-range but can also attack the basket. Strong morning performance by playing within himself.

2007 CHECKLIST

Keenan Ellis, PF: His boys Mayo and Walker command all the ink, but Ellis is a prospect in his own right and on Thursday afternoon he reminded us of that. His long torso allows him to get into the paint and though he's not strong enough yet, he's got good enough basketball ability and athleticism to make it happen.

SCOUT'S SEAT

James Keefe dropped a hook shot and finished a few plays strong. He's a good player but we've got him a little high in the Top 30. ... Kevin Durant's hands are exception and though he's not strong, his hands allow him to make difficult catches. …

Earl Clark showed off another facet of his game when he took a small guard into the post and whooped up on him. Yet another reason to get excited about his potential: the mismatch possibilities. … Ishmael Smith is a zippy, shifty, fast point guard who will get a ton of mid-major attention and the biggies will watch intently too. …

While 99% of the camp ventured off the lunch, O.J. Mayo stayed after to launch jumpers with an instructor. Gotta love the big timer who is willing to work. …
