The Innaugural Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout will be held at the AL McGuire Center on the Marquette University Campus Decenber 26th and 27th. The Shootout will include some of the top rated players in the Midwest including Jerry Smith, Bryce Webster, Trevor Mbakwe, Nayal "Mac" Koshwal and Thijin Moses.

When talking about some of the best high school basketball players in the nation, names like Wauwatosa East's Jerry Smith, St. Thomas's Bryce Webster (MN) and Nayal "Mac" Koshwal and Thijin Moses of Chicago's Boys to Men Academy are sure to be mentioned. Smith is headed to play for Rick Pitino at Louisville and Webster for the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. Mbakwe, Koshwal and Moses are all members of the '07 class and are being recruited by the most prominent college basketball programs in the country.

When you add in some of the best players in Wisconsin like Kwamain Mitchell of Dominican, D'Angalo Jackson of Pius XI, Matt Smith of Burlington Central Catholic, Bryquis Perine of Milwaukee Vincent and Oostburg's Andrew Zimmermann, you have the Innaugural Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout.

The WBBY Shootout was the brainchild of Mark Miller. Mark is the lead writer and editor if the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook which is an annual publication that previews all level of high school and college basketball throughout Wisconsin. Mark has been covering basketball in the state for over 20 years.

Miller explained where the event came from, "I have thought about having the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook sponsor a Christmas Tournament for several years. But I never got the ball rolling for one reason or another. When the Wisconsin Basketball News went under last year, it was the perfect time to jump in and do something. I love the Christmas tournaments in the Chicago area and thought Wisconsin and the Milwaukee area should have something like that as well."

The first step for Miller was to find a facility to host the event, and with the brand new $30 million Al McGuire Center on Marquette University's campus, Miller didn't have to look far.

"To be able to have an event of this magnitude in a facility like the Al McGuire Center is really a blessing. The administrative people in the Marquette athletic department have been great to work with, as have the coaches and athletic directors of the 17 schools taking part in our event. Hopefully, we'll have some big crowds come out to watch some great teams and players. I believe we have no less than 15 NCAA Division I prospects taking part so the opportunity to watch some stellar individuals is most definitely there."

The next step for Miller was to fill the two day event with quality teams. This was no easy task in this day and age as many teams fill their non-conference schedules two and even three years in advance. But Miller and the rest of the WBBY staff was up top the challenege.

"I think we have a terrific lineup of teams and players for our first event and I hope to make it an annual thing. With two teams from Minneapolis and one from Chicago, it will most certainly be interesting to see how the Wisconsin schools fare against top-notch competition from neighboring states, said Miller."

The innaugural shootout is a must see for all high school and college basketball fans throughout the Midwest. Several players in this year's shootout are found in Scout.com's Top 100 rankings.
