Dominic James Big East Rookie of the Week #5

For the fifth time this season, Marquette freshman Dominic James was named Big East Rookie of the Week. The point guard from Richmond, IN continues to build his resume for Rookie of the year honors.

MILWAUKEE, February 20

It was a busy week in the BIG EAST and weekly honors were hard to come by. However, Marquette was able to pull out one major award winner and an honor roll selection.

Freshman Dominic James was named league Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season and the second week in a row. He joined Cincinnati's Devan Downey as co-Rookie of the week. Both led their teams to 2-0 weeks, scoring 16.0 points per game. James also averaged 5.5 assists and two steals in the Golden Eagles' wins over no. 17 Georgetown and no. 9 Pittsburgh.

Senior Steve Novak was named to the league's honor roll. Novak was MU's leading scorer in both wins, averaging 23.0 points per game. He shot 10-of-21 from three point range and needs six total threes in MU's final three games to tie Connecticut's Ray Allen for the most threes in BIG EAST play in league history.

Villanova's Allan Ray was the league's Player-of-the-Week, leading the Wildcats to wins over no. 1 Connecticut and no. 17 Georgetown. He scored 25 and 20 points respectively.

Marquette returns to action on Saturday, February 25 as it takes on Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., at 5 p.m. (CST) in a game broadcast on ESPNU.
