The New Jersey Elite has several division one players on its roster. So it was no surprise to its coach, Galen Smith, that his team was prepared properly for round one at the Super Showcase. The Elite defeated Montco Red Raiders, 73-52, in a first round pool game in the Silver Category inside the Wide World of Sports basketball facility.

"I think we have a shot to win it all," said Smith. "We have some division one talent on this team."

Smith is correct. One of the better players is forward Idris Hilliard, a 6-foot-8 forward who has plenty of recruiting interest in his skills. Hilliard is an impressive big man who has some nimbleness to his moves along the baseline on the offensive side.

"He has a lot of interest," Smith said. "Miami, Providence, St. John's, Wake Forest, Marquette, DePaul are some of the schools that are interested."

Hilliard said he has no leader and is open in his recruiting process. He's a player that is still being evaluated and many programs are on the fence for now on whether to offer a scholarship. It's likely the next week will decided that question for most programs.

"He's a high division one player," Smith said.

Watching Hilliard score 15 points today has to be as convincing as Smith's confidence.
