Dominic, Ousmane & Todd visit St. Thomas

While most Marquette students have gone home for semester break, Dominic James, Ousmane Barro & Todd Townsend were in school today, but not at Marquette, they spent the day at St. Thomas Academy in Milwaukee.

St. Thomas Academy on Milwaukee's Southeast side had a focus this week on learning about friendship, role models and bullying. Today, Marquette basketball players Dominic James and Ousmane Barro, along with Director of Basketball Operations Todd Townsend spent their morning speaking with the students about their experiences and offered some advice.

The players spent time with everyone in school, reading to the children in the younger grades, and capping it off with an open forum in the gym for the kids in the upper grades. They answered questions about basketball, life experiences, friendships and role models.

The highlight came at the end of the morning when several students were selected to come onto the court and play against the three. The bleachers were packed and very vocal as the students scored, but the loudest cheers came on several occasions as Todd Townsend was on the receiving end of several ally oop dunks from Dominic James passes. Townsend also had the shot of the day as he dribbled to the half court line, threw the ball up over the back of his head and put it in - Harlem Globetrotter style.

You could tell by the faces and reactions of the students as they left the gym that this is an experience they won't soon forget, but they were not alone as it was obvious that the three were in the same boat.

A great way to start the semester break in anyone's book!
