After the game Coach Crean commented on the successful win, "The key of game for us was gaining the rebound margin. The last time we played Providence they did a great job of rebounding against us and won the game on the boards. Today we were able to gain the advantage on the boards." Golden Eagles out rebounded the Friars 42 to 29.
Marquette never trailed in this game and at half time was leading 33-30 with McNeal scoring 13 points in the first half. However the Friars refused to go away quietly and stayed close with the Golden Eagles until Dan Fitzgerald hit a corner three pointer with 1:52 left in the game that gave Golden Eagles a seven point lead.
Dan Fitzgerald commented after the game about his successful shooting effort, "My teammates have been pressing me that last couple of games to shoot more, and today I took their advice."
During halftime, Marquette honored the great Dwayne Wade with his jersey retired and a rafter placed in the Bradley Center in his honor.
