Quintrell is no stranger to the weight room, and is quick to point out that his strength is the best part of his game, but it doesn't end there. "My body strength is my biggest asset, but I am also quick off the floor and I can anticipate shots which really helps me block shots and rebound. I have also a good turnaround jumper and it is getting better." Thomas also knows that he has more work to do, especially with his ball handling. "I know I need some work handling the ball, but there is still time and I will work as hard as I can to get it done."
So what is the 6'8 post looking for in a school? "I really want to go to a place where I can play my first couple of years. I want to contribute and it is important that I play in a system where I fit in. I want to go where the point guards are unselfish, and where the team and school are more like a family, both on and off the court." When it comes to a coach, Quintrell believes he knows what he is looking for there as well. "I want to go where I know the coach will be staying around. I want to play for a coach that is very strict, but gives you the opportunity to play free from time to time."
Thomas has a handful of teams involved in his recruitment at this point but admits that his three favorite schools at this point are Marquette, Maryland and Rutgers. With his improved play Quintrell is now hearing from a host of new schools, but is the door still open for new schools to get involved? "I can't think of a single school that I would want to let into the mix at this point."
Thomas explained what he liked about each of his three favorite schools:
I have watched them and the players really seem to do all of the little things right, which tells me that they really do a good job of developing their players and that is important to me.
I really like the way that Maryland runs up and down the court. They really move the ball well, but they still use a set offense. I like that style of play.
I really like all of the people there, and they are rebuilding. I like the idea of being a part of building something special.
Off the court Quintrell admits that he likes to play around and have fun, but his friends describe him as being a very serious person. It is obvious that Thomas knows what he wants, and will do what it takes to get there, but he will take his time to make sure he makes the right decision. "I know what schools I will consider, but I am not planning on committing anywhere until school starts, I want to take some visits to make sure I make the right decision."
If the way Thomas handles an interview is any sign, he will be making the right decision no matter where he decides to go.
