Milwaukee – Monday was the official start of the fall semester for the Marquette men's basketball team and the day also marked the continuation of preparations for the team's upcoming foreign tour.
The Golden Eagles took to the Al McGuire Center court Monday afternoon for the first time as a complete unit. MU's trio of freshmen, Scott Christopherson, Patrick Hazel and Trevor Mbakwe, made their respective debuts and were quickly introduced to the fast-paced workout session. Sophomore David Cubillan's long journey back from his native Venezuela concluded Sunday night, when he arrived back on campus.
Cubillan had been touring a majority of the summer with the Venezuelan National Team and the freshmen were not able to participate in practice until the fall semester officially began.
Marquette fans will have the opportunity to gain an exclusive look at the 14-member roster Tuesday night at the Al McGuire Center. The team will host an open practice/scrimmage beginning at 8:30 p.m. Free parking will be available in Lot F, located directly across from the arena on 12th Street.
The Marquette travel party will depart Friday night for Vancouver, arriving in the late hours that evening. The Golden Eagles will play a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday before returning to Milwaukee late Monday night. The NCAA allows a foreign tour every four years and the timing of the Labor Day trip in 2007 means the team's newcomers are able to participate.
