A native of Nigeria, Ben-Eze was accompanied on the trip by Kathy Neal. Kathy, her husband David and their family are Ben-Eze's sponsors here in the United States.
With an ‘official visit' being so much different, fans of all teams often ask what really goes on during this type of visit? Frank explained, "It was a lot of fun. I especially liked the basketball. I was able to see two practices while I was there. The first practice was open to the public. There were so many people there, it really felt good to be a part of it. There was even a group of fans that had my flag there, my flag from home. But seeing the practices made me really see how they play basketball. The games that they played were very physical. I really like that the way they play."
Spending additional time with the coaches is where Frank was really able to envision what a future at Marquette might be like if he decides it is the right school for him. "We watched a lot of films. They showed me how their program fits my style of play, what it would be like, how I would fit into the offense and how they would utilize my skills. They showed me different things that they would do to help me develop."
The 6'11 big man knows that he has some work to do too. "Another thing that I really liked is that they showed me some things about my team right now, and things that I can do now that will help my team. Things that I need to work on. On my team now I have to run a lot, so they showed me different ways to run the floor, ways that will help me to be more successful. They also talked to me about how the Big East is, how tough and competitive it is."
Frank enjoyed spending time with the members of the team, and Wesley Matthews is one that stood out. "He gave me a tour – showed me around the campus, showed me his dorm, where the players live, and he also took me to his classes. He was really nice and explained a lot about the school to me."
It is not every day that you see someone like Frank that takes the same level of desire and determination that he has on the basketball court and applies it in the classroom too. Frank looks to major in Engineering in college and he was able to get a good look at Marquette's Engineering program as well. "I met with the people in their Engineering department and it went very well. They are building a new Engineering building and really making improvements. They have a great Civil Engineering program with a new program that starts next year. It is a combination of Civil Engineering and Management where the program will teach you how to manage your own business. It was great."
Many fans believe that when a player is on an official visit the coaches really push hard to try to get a commitment during the visit, but Frank did not feel that type of pressure from Marquette Head Coach Tom Crean, "Coach Crean is a highly respected coach and a very intelligent guy. From the first minute I met him I really liked him. During my visit he didn't put any pressure on me, it really wasn't like that. He did explain a few reasons why they needed a decision before long, and I understand the situations that he explained, but he didn't put any pressure on me."
So, was all of this enough to get Frank to commit? "I really like Marquette, they have many advantages that fit me very well. They play my kind of game and I felt that I was able to see what I could do there, but I don't want to be in a hurry. I am still somewhat new here and I need to learn more about the whole system. Even if I was to say I love Marquette and want to commit I couldn't say it right now. This is a very big decision and I need to be sure before I do anything. I have to sit back and get a true feel for it all and get some good advice. I need to lay the Xs & Os, the features and benefits out in front of me and when the time is right, it will guide me."
So what is next for Frank? "I don't have any other visits scheduled right now, but I will have to take one or two more visits."
Wherever Frank Ben-Eze decides to continue on in college he will certainly be as successful off the court as he will be on it. He has goals and ambitions, knows what he wants, where he wants to go in life and how to get there. Its all just a matter of time.
