MU head coach Tom Crean said, "Ousmane's work was phenomenal. 15 of our 19 asst came from James, McNeal [7 assist with 0 turnovers] and Matthews …and we got 18 rebs from them."
Trailing by as much as nine it the first half, MU rallied after Scott Christopherson's big three point shot. It was 22-15 when Christopherson entered the game at the 4:09 mark and quickly drilled a long three from the left corner. ‘It was a knock down three shot just 5 seconds after he entered the game. ..Said Tom Crean. "The shot gave us energy.'
Crean said that after poor road performances against Louisville, West Virginia and UCONN, a key was MU finally was able to play good defense in the second half. "It comes down to making stops…we had our best defensive FG% performance in 2nd half this yr on road in The Big East. …We held them to 27% FG %"
For the first time since the Big East opener vs. Providence, MU won the rebounding battle 38-35. MU also had 19 assist to only 10 turnovers. Many passes down low were finished by Barro who finished with 9 FGs in 10 atts.
MU Coach Tom Crean was pleased with the matchup zone defensive effort vs. the Bearcats.. "We played zone with passion and actively…" He said. "We lost [Cinn] players on the pick and rolls did not get out to corner to challenge the three but overall a great effort. On offense Crean credited the play of his veterans.
MU is now 6-3 at the halfway mark in The Big East Conference.
