Newbill's Mansion Team Loses Class AA Title

Devonte "D.J." Newbill's Strawberry Mansion lost the PIAA Class AA state championship today as teammate Khalil Meadows' foul-line jumper missed with two seconds to play to South Fayette, District 49-47.

Newbill, the senior 6-foot-4 guard who committed to Marquette last January, led the Mansion with 15 pts, six assists and four rebounds. According to website accounts from the Phil Inquirer, Newbill sank a pull-up jumper with 35 seconds remaining to tie the game at 47-47, but South Fayette Lions senior guard Tyler Henry put in an offensive rebound with 25 seconds to go to put South Fayette up 49-47.

Mansion called timeout with 10 seconds remaining and tried to get Newbill a shot on the right wing but Newbill was double-teamed upon catching the ball and forced to pass to teammate Meadows at the top of the key and his jumper bounced off the rim.
