White Leaves Marshall For UC Job

Marshall men's basketball coach Greg White has left the university, accepting the head coaching job at the University of Charleston (WV). In addition, White will apparently have a vice president title at UC.

White's move was announced in a brief press conference at the University of Charleston at 4pm on Monday, June 3, 2003.Members of White's family, friends, and Charleston-area media were in attendance at the press conference, which at least one television station (WCHS) televised live.

Rumors began circulating of White's departure earlier on Monday.

"I asked, 'why'," White said when he was presented with the opportunity last week. "Then I asked, "Why not?". White had held the same head coaching job at UC in the early '90s, before moving on to an assistant head coach spot under Jim Harrick at UCLA.

With Greg White's departure, the Marshall men's basketball program has only two remaining assistants, Charlie Hagley and Jeff Boals. (Note the correction from earlier version) Earlier in the spring, White's other assistant, Kevin Keatts, accepted the head coach job at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
