Marshall Offers Tight End

Tight End is a position that has factored into offensive schemes at Marshall for many years. Players such as Sean Doctor, Eric Inhat, Gregg Kellett, Cody Slate and Lee Smith have all produced solid careers while wearing the Green and White. It remains a position of importance with today's coaching staff as well.

Marshall has recently offered a tight end that fits the mold of your prototypical tight end. Standing 6'6" tall and weighing 218 pounds, Matt Burke is a menacing looking pass catching tight end. Matt Burke is a three star prospect from West Palm Beach, Florida. Burke currently attends Cardinal Newman High School.

I caught up with Burke recently to discuss his recruitment.

Burke's lead recruiters from Marshall are JaJuan Seider and Bill Legg. Not suprising that Seider is involved as Burke is from South Florida, where Seider so often recruits. Marshall offered the tight end in May, and has stayed in contact since then. Burke intends, as expected, to play tight end at the next level.

Currently Burke holds multiple offers. Those offers include the offer from Marshall, along with offers from BCS Schools San Diego State and Boise State. Fellow CUSA member FIU has also offered along with Georgia State, Middle Tennessee State and UMASS.

Burke has no favorites at this point, and does not know when he will visit Marshall. He does however do a lot of research on the schools that are showing him interest. In regards to Marshall, he knows that they are a prestigious program and has had football success. He does a lot of research of the schools online.

As mentioned earlier, Burke has the size to be a very good tight end at the FBS level. This summer he camped at Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida State. When asked what his favorite part of the entire recruiting process has been thus far he said, "it has to be meeting all the coaches that come to visit me at my school."

Burke will begin his senior season at Cardinal Newman within the next couple weeks.

Marshall currently has three tight ends primarily on the roster in juniors C.J. Crawford and Gator Hoskins, and sophomore Eric Frohnapfel.

Stay tuned to for further updates.
