JUCO Safety Visiting Marshall

Its that time of year again. That time when high profile recruits from around the country start to set up their five official visits. The time when schools invite recruits to spend the weekend at their school, tour their facilities, meet with their staff, school president, and current players. The time when they come out to watch a football game, often, the school's biggest game of the year.

Marshall will not disappoint this weekend as they host the UCF Golden Knights in an 8pm kickoff with the early lead in the CUSA Eastern Division up for grabs. Marshall has not had any success against the Knights since a win in 2004. Seven straight defeats, blowouts, monsoons, weather delays, and heartbreakers. Marshall hopes to change that this weekend, and in doing so, they hope to put on a good show for one highly touted recruit.

Currently, the Herd has two senior starting safeties. Waiting in the wings behind starters Dominick LeGrande and Okechukwu Okoroha are former defensive back Corie Wilson, and true freshman Andre Scott. Scott should produce big time for the Herd but is being redshirted this season.

That is the primary reason, Doc Holliday and staff will be bringing in Taj Letman. Letman is a three star Junior College safety from Holmes Community College in Mississippi. Letman is 6'3" tall and weighs in right around 200 pounds. He runs a 4.45 forty. As a freshman, Letman finished the season with 56 tackles in nine games, while playing at free safety.

Letman already has a plethora of offers. Those offers include BCS schools Georgia, Purdue, Kentucky and Baylor. Marshall, UNC Charlotte, and Louisiana Lafayette have also offered the talented safety.

The good news is that Letman is on pace to graduate in December, and when he does, he will have three years in which to play his final two years of eligibility. This was the good news, actually, due to an early season hand injury on the first day of practice, Letman is out for the year, but will now have three years to play three.

Letman's lead recruiter for the Herd is Lytrell Pollard.
