Multiple sources have mentioned and reported that for the first time in quite some time, the Marshall football program has four to six legit FBS defensive tackles on the roster. For the past few years, this has been an area of concern, as the majority of the tackles were undersized, former defensive ends who had been moved inside.
This year, the Herd has 300 pounders Brandon Sparrow and Josh Brown. Marshall also has former USC commit Steve Dillon, and another big defensive tackle in Jarquez Samuel. Seniors James Rouse, and Ken Smith round out the 6 deep. Rouse, Smith, and Sparrow are all seniors this year. Dillon and Samuel will be redshirt juniors next year, so obviously, defensive tackle is a position of need in the next two recruiting classes.
Clearly the Herd is on the lookout for defensive tackles who can step in and play right away. Hafoka Olie is a senior at Trinity Euless High School in Texas. Olie is a very stout 6'0", 280 pounds. He runs a 4.9 forty, and recorded 25 tackles last season as a junior from the Defensive Tackle position.
Olie does hold an offer from Marshall, and although he has some connections to Missouri, he says when asked if he has any interest in Marshall, "most definitely." He also said he intends on visiting the Huntington, WV school soon.
Olie would love to play fullback at the next level, however, right now it looks like defensive tackle could be where he lines up. However, with his athletic ability, he could play both positions.
Olie is not ready to announce a top five at this point. Ollie also has offers from Toledo, Missouri, and North Texas. The player that he feels he plays the most like is Baltimore Raven Haloti Ngata.
