First Marshall Scrimmage: In Pictures

The 2001 Marshall football squad held the first scrimmage session of the year on August 15, 2001. Here, in pictures, is Herd Insider's look at the early scrimmage. Enjoy.

Running back Chanston Rodgers looks for daylight during Marshall's first scrimmage of 2001 summer drills. Rodgers did run for 28 yards and one touchdown during the scrimmage, and looks to be in pre knee-injury form. Which is to say, healthy and ready to run.

Marshall QB Byron Leftwich lets one fly on the first series in the scrimmage. Leftwich and the starters only played one series, as the scrimmage was designed to test and evaluate the #2 and #3 players. Still, Leftwich looked sharp, displaying none of the early camp rust he possessed last week.

Marshall receiver (and The One To Watch in 2001) Josh Davis fights off the tackle of defensive back Jimmy Tyson. Davis lit up the second team defense for six catches, 68 yards.

Marshall tight end Joe Deifel fights through the defensive backfield during Marshall football's first scrimmage of the 2001 summer camp.
