Recruiting Notes

The year 2014 is upon us, and with that school is getting closer and closer to being back in session. This is always an interesting time of the year as eager recruiting fans wait to see if any of the years commitments are enrolling early. That is no different around Marshall this January as the Herd hopes to see more than a couple commits enroll early.

Marshall recently got four commitments from Prep Schools along the east coast, most notably, Fork Union Military Academy.

Malik Thompson – Thompson is a 6'6", 246 pound defensive end from Fork Union Military Academy. Thompson has the potential to be a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, he had an NC State offer prior to attending FUMA. Marshall lost one defensive end this year in Alex Bazzie, and will lose Rashawde Myers and Arnold Blackmon next year.

Jason Smith – Smith is a former UMASS commitment who attended East Coast Prep School this past year. Smith is another defensive end with a big time motor. Smith is 6'2", and weighs 265 pounds.

A.J. Addison – Addison has the potential to be a big time offensive tackle. UVA was all over him in high school, however Addison ended up attending Fork Union Military Academy. Addison is 6'7", and weights 290 pounds. Like Thompson and Smith, Addision is expected to be an early enrollee, but their eligibility is not known at this time.

Marshall also should be the January home of current quarterback commit Cole Garvin. Garvin committed to the Herd in the summer and should be on campus in the coming weeks.
