Silva Weighing Options

Shortly after National Signing day in February of 2014, Marshall received two commitments from teammates and it appeared that the 2015 class was off and running. The Herd had snagged two, three star prospects from the talent rich Miami area. These two teammates hailed from Miami Central High School home to three current Marshall players, most notably Rakeem Cato and Tommy Shuler.

The players were Marquis Couch and Fermin Silva. Shortly after the announced commitments, Silva announced that he was going to go ahead and take some additional time to learn a little more about each school and then make a decision later on down the road, most likely prior to the start of his senior year at Miami Central. A season that when asked about he says, "I am looking forward to this year, it is going to be a big year."

Silva has since gotten a lot of attention from around the country. The 6'1", 215 pound outside linebacker is currently rated three stars by the experts here at He is very fast, and athletic and projects to make a huge impact at the outside backer position. Silva currently has twenty offers, per an interview late last week.

Silva has recently been contacted by Duke, Cincinnati, Florida State and USC but has not garnered offers from those schools as of yet. His current offer list includes FAU, FIU, Appalachian State, USF, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, Louisville and Marshall.

Silva still stays in contact with the Herd coaching staff and when asked on where the Herd stands right now, Silva said, "I really like Marshall, and they are definitely in my top 5."

So, what other schools are in Silva's top 5 you ask? "Right now, my top five is Marshall, Louisville, USF, USC and Florida State. However, right now, I don't have offers from USC and Florida State, but I really like those two schools."

Silva is weighing all of his options right now, but hopes to make a decision prior to the start of his senior season.
