Class of 2014 Set to Arrive on Campus

All across the country , high school graduations are taking place and high school seniors are preparing to move on to the next chapter in their lives. That goes the same for football players as they begin to travel to the schools of their choice. Marshall welcomes their 2014 signing class to campus, with most of the class arriving this weekend.

I recently caught up with a few of the prospects as they prepare for their upcoming moves.

Tomell One, and Hyleck Foster, both highly regarded players, will be arriving this weekend, as will big time defensive end prospect Ryan Bee. Three star center Nathaniel Devers will be on campus to begin his career in green and white as well.

Reports say that four star, highly regarded, safety Kendall Gant, from Lakeland , Florida will also be arriving and ready to begin his career. Those same reports also indicate that Gant will be eligible to play right away, joining big name recent signees A.J. Leggett and Michael Johnson who also changed their commitments to Marshall from one of the Power 5 conferences.

I spoke to three star wide receiver Emanuel Beal. Beal expects to be one member of this class who will have a chance to come in on day one and compete for playing time. Beal is a highly talented outside wide receiver who was offered by numerous schools.

I asked Beal how he was feeling about his move on to college football. Beal said, "It is like a dream come true. I owe it all to my mom and my coaches. They changed my work ethic heading into this year." That change in work ethic saw the interest in Beal increase as the offers rolled in. Beal ended up signing with the Herd and will arrive on campus on Saturday, June 7th.

Jordan Dowrey is an offensive lineman from Virginia. After signing day, the coaches went on and on about the toughness that Dowrey possesses. Dowrey is an offensive lineman, and a big time wrestler. Dowrey did not lose a single match in his junior or senior seasons.

I spoke to Dowrey about the time leading up from his signing to finally getting ready to leave for campus. Dowrey will be reporting to Marshall on Sunday morning and begin class immediately on Monday. Dowrey said he is not sure what weight he will play at but he is up to 285, he said the coaches want him to stay lean.

I asked Dowrey how his offseason has been going and he said, "My offseason has been good. I have been in track still, and throwing (discus and shot put). Mostly I have been doing my workouts. It has made me so much better and I cannot wait to see where I will be after a couple of years on this program."
