Commitments and Other News

Today we will take a look back to happenings around Marshall the past couple of weeks that may have slipped through the cracks. Football season is coming up on everyone quickly, or slowly depending on how your favorite baseball team is doing. Things in Huntington on the recruiting front and the transformation of the roster are moving along at a steady pace.

First, a look back at the additions to the Herd 2015 Football Commitment list.

The coaching staff has been working hard in the offseason, taking advantage of the success of the 2013 season and the expected success of the 2014 season.

Larry Dunnon –Dunnon is a three star wide receiver from Lake Worth, Florida. Dunnon is 6'3", and weighs 206 pounds. He is a tall, dynamic wide out that could also play tight end at the next level. Some reports have him at nearly 215 pounds, and there are also reports that he has an offer from Alabama. Dunnon committed to the Herd in late June. Dunnon could come in and play, especially with Craig Wilkins and Davonte Allen entering their senior and junior seasons.

Carlos Pickett- Pickett visited Marshall for the first time last week. Marshall was the first school to offer Pickett. Pickett committed shortly after his visit to Huntington. He said that he loved his visit, and everything about it. He committed to the staff, and "they were very excited." Pickett says he is a safety right now but the staff wants him to come in and play Corner. Many people are comparing Pickett to current Marshall safety/defensive back Tiquan Lang. Both are under the radar type of players. Lang exploded onto the scene last year and beat out D.J. Hunter as the starting safety. Pickett is 5'11" ,and 185 pounds and is currently unranked by

Travis Amey – Amey is the most recent commitment to Doc Holliday's staff. Amey, like Pickett, visited the Marshall campus late last week. Yesterday, Amey confirmed his commitment. Amey is a two star defensive back with a variety of offers, including Marshall, Troy, and Western Kentucky, among others. Amey is currently 5'10", 165 pounds. Amey is from Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida. Amey's game is compared to former Marshall defensive back Monterius Lovett.

In other news, former Clemson commit, and Aiken, South Carolina native, Josh Brown has left the program. Brown arrived in Huntington two years ago as a non qualifier and became eligible last season. Brown played a lot early on, before giving way later on in the season to the trio of Jarquez Samuel, Steve Dillon and James Rouse.
