Game Day Central - Akron

Marshall enters the final stage of the first quarter of the season tomorrow afternoon on the road against the Akron Zips. The Zips led by Tommy Bowden come into the game with a 1 – 1 record. The Zips beat Howard and lost to Penn State. Marshall enters the game undefeated with wins over Miami of Ohio, Rhode Island and Ohio.

The game will be televised on ESPN3.

Marshall is currently a 9.5 point road favorite

The Zips enter the game off of an off week after the loss at Penn State. They came into the game with a much improved offense and defense and are looking for a groundbreaking win.

Marshall welcomed three official visitors last week. Logan Grieser and Alex Locklear are already committed to the Herd and enjoyed their visits. Offensive Lineman Frederick Johnson visited and enjoyed it as well, but has not committed.

Starting Safety A.J. Leggett who was dinged up in the fourth quarter against Miami of Ohio after securing 10 total tackles, has missed the last two games, Tiquan Lang has replaced him in the lineup.

Jermaine Holmes and Neville Hewitt continue to battle for the Middle linebacker position.

Senior Defensive End Arnold Blackmon missed last week for the Herd.

Marshall has lost two straight heart breaking games on the road at Akron. The Herd lost in 2002 when Byron Leftwich broke his leg and was carried up the field in the fourth quarter by his teammates. In 2004 Marshall made so many mistakes that they blew a very late 14 point lead and lost on Charlie Frye “day.” All Pro defensive end Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins was recognized at halftime as well.
