Busy Week for The Herd
Marshall has been in Boca Raton since Friday and has enjoyed all of the bowl game activities as they prepare for the chance to be just the third team in school history to reach the 13 win total. The 1996 and 1999 teams finished 15-0 and 13-0 respectively.
While the Herd prepares for the final chapter of the 2014 season, the basketball team is in the ending stages of its out of conference schedule as it prepares for CUSA play. The Herd is off to a slow start, setting at 3 wins in the first ten games, but they have show substantial improvement over the past week.
The Herd battled Arkansas State on the road Saturday, holding a lead until late in the second half before finally falling by 9 points. Marshall immediately got on a bus and took the bus to Memphis where they would later hit the air, and fly to Reno, Nevada to play the Nevada Wolfpack. Tip time for that game is tonight, Monday, December 22nd at 10pm.
Meanwhile, back in Boca, the Herd finished up practice yesterday, and will no be ready for typical game day prep. Kickoff is 6pm, Tuesday.
Rakeem Cato will wear number 31. 31 is the number of injured linebacker Evan McKelvey. Throughout the season players such as Neville Hewitt, Jermaine Holmes, D.J. Hunter and Darryl Roberts have worn the number as a tribute to their fallen teammate. The jersey was worn every week but one. Game number 12, at home, against Western Kentucky.
Marshall appears to have gotten a commit to flip from Virginia Tech. The recruit is a defensive end prospect and is rated two stars. Herdhaven.com will have more on the subject when it has been confirmed.
The current Marshall commit list is rated in the top part of CUSA. It is currently made up of five recruits from the state of Georgia, one from Maryland, two from Ohio, eight from Florida and one from West Virginia.

Reports are saying that senior Demetrius Evans missed practice due to a mutual misunderstanding while on the bowl trip. Evans, has played very little the last 90% of the season as the emergence of Hyleck Foster, Angelo Jean Louis and Deontay McManus severely limited his playing time.
Marshall will wear a special sticker on the backs of their helmets to honor the loss of the father of Chad Pennington, as well as School President Dr. Stephen J. Kopp.
The Herd is looking to win its fourth straight bowl game, Little Ceasars, St. Petersburg, and Military Bowl game. This will be the Herd’s second four game winning streak in bowl games.
