Did The Herd Get Another Mid Year Player

The Marshall recruiting Class of 2014 included a few players who were unable to report to campus for one reason or another. One such recruit was a speedy wide receiver who flew under the radar from Georgia. The prospect was expected to enroll at Marshall over the summer and participate this past season, but that was not the case.

Reese Wooten was a two star wide receiver from Cairo, Georgia. Wooten was said to have been clocked, at, “a legit 4.3 in the forty.” Wooten most likely would have redshirted this past year with the plethora of wide receiving talent the Herd had at the time.

Wooten ended up, according to some sources, at Milford Academy in New York. Wooten is listed as a 6’1”, 170 pound defensive. According to the school’s official athletic site he was named the most improved player of the week on September 14th.

Wooten has reappeared on the Herd’s recruiting radar and is expected to enroll at Marshall this month and began classes. It is unclear at the moment if he will be eligible in the fall, or next January.

Wooten joins four other members of the Class of 2015 who will report to campus mid year.

Those players include:

Chase Litton – Three star quarterback who was eligible and able to participate in bowl practices as the Herd prepared for the Boca Raton Bowl. The tall, big armed quarterback will be able to also practice in the spring as the battle to replace Rakeem Cato begins. Litton will be joined in that battle with transfer Michael Birdsong, Gunnar Holcombe and Cole Garvin. On a side note, Malik Thompson and Jason Smith also were able to participate in bowl practices.

Marquis Couch – Three star linebacker from Miami Central High School.

Damien Dozier – Two star defensive end who originally committed to Virginia Tech before decommitting and joining the Thundering Herd.

Emanuel Byrd – Byrd is a tight end from Georgia Military Academy.
