Herd Offers Hilton Head Speedster

Hilton Head Island High School is located right in the center of one of South Carolina’s finest beach communities. Tourists from all over travel to the area for the spectacular beaches and the even better golf. Recently, however, the talk of the town has been the High School football team.

The Seahawks have blasted back into the forefront of local sports, last year sending one of the nations top defensive tackles to Austin, Texas to play for Charlie Strong and the Texas Longhorns, his name was Poona Ford. Multiple other players have went on the past few years to play at schools such as the Citadel, Toledo, and Gardner Webb.

The most recent athlete to be making a splash in the world of recruiting is big time three star defensive back Jestin Morrow. Morrow has incredible speed and ball skills, and his play during his junior year have helped to garner himself offers from such schools as Toledo, Purdue, Buffalo, Charlotte and now Marshall.

Morrow’s lead recruiter from Marshall is wide receivers coach Mike Furrey. Furrey, a former NFL wide receiver who is in charge of recruiting the Carolina’s for the Herd offered Morrow earlier this month. Morrow said Furrey keeps in constant contact with him, and he really likes that.

Morrow is a 5’10”, 164 pound defensive back who can play anywhere. He said, “I'll play whatever position they put me at corner, wide receiver, I'll even be on all special teams.” What makes Morrow so coveted is his speed. Speed such as his is simply something that cannot be taught.

Morrow was officially clocked in two camps recently. At the University of South Carolina camp he was clocked at a 4.32, forty. When he ran at the Ohio State camp, he ran a 4.33, forty.

I asked Morrow if he had any favorites at this time and he said, “I don’t really have any favorites yet, but Purdue and Marshall show me a lot of love and I like that.”

Morrow does not know a whole lot about Marshall yet, but he does know some of the tragic history at the school. He said, “I don't know a lot about Marshall. I know about the plane crash with the team, and that was crazy. I know their record was really good last year, and talking to coach Furrey makes me like the school even more he's a cool guy.”

Morrow says he tries to play like Deion Sanders and Darrell Green. Both players brought tremendous, elite type speed to the game no matter where they played. For many years, Green won the famous, “Fastest Man in the NFL” awards.

Morrow also said if given the opportunity he would definitely visit the Huntington, West Virginia campus.
